CURRENT EVENTS PAGE
This page is for regular updates on my life both inside and outside the acting and film industry. I'll be posting it quarterly with all the latest news and happenings.
| |
| | Posted September 11, 2008 It has been almost nine months since my last posting, and much has happened in that time. And over the past while and with all that’s happened I can say only this: things change. That is a universal constant. Sometimes the changes are things we like, other times not. But the one thing that remains constant is that things change. The only other thing that has stayed somewhat constant recently is this nice stretch of weather we are having right now. But eventually that will change too and we’ll be back to the wet and the grey. Either way, I still love it here in Vancouver.
TEACHING AT SCHOOLCREATIVE IS A BLAST
I am truly grateful for the opportunity to teach at this finest of acting schools. Recently Schoolcreative has been accredited by the PCTIA, which further adds to the credibility and prestige of school. I already think that our faculty for both full and part time has some of the best acting instructors in the city, and best of all we work like a team. I am so humbled by the grace and humility of each teacher, and how much they care about the students and their development.
I am proud to be part of this group and I encourage anyone interested in doing acting to take classes with us, whether it be with me or with any of the other instructors. If anyone is interested in taking acting classes with me or with the school, you can contact Kirsten Clarkson at Schoolcreative at (604) 408-8550 or e-mail her at info@schoolcreative.com. For more information about the school and curriculums, visit our website at www.schoolcreative.com.

THE NEXT PERFORMER'S MASTERY IS OCTOBER 24, 25, 26 2008
If anyone would like to do the Mastery workshop, you can contact me through this website at henry@henryjmah.com and you can a) be put on the list for March, 2009 b) register for the October workshop, or c) we can arrange to meet for a coffee or something and you can ask me about what is involved in participating. I love talking about the Mastery to people, and I get a charge out of it when someone I've spoken to decides to do it, but most importantly that they do it for themselves, and not because I did a "hard sell" to get them to sign on the dotted line. I have found that facilitating at the Mastery has made me a better rounded person. I'm grateful that I get to make this kind of contribution to the lives of others. There are a few spots left for October. So if you or someone you know is interested, contact me and I would be happy to speak about the workshop. For those that cannot make this one, our next workshop will be March 2009, dates to be confirmed. See you at the Mastery.

BONNIE AND I ARE STILL GETTING MARRIED AND BUYING A HOUSE THIS YEAR
We still don’t have plans or details nailed down quite yet, but we are planning on tying the knot officially and getting a place of our own. We have taken a very long time to look at properties, and for us the length of time it has taken has worked out for us. The real estate market is changing, in that prices are starting to come down; not just stabilize, but actually COME DOWN. That is welcome relief for us, since the market in my opinion has been grossly overpriced for at least two years. The spike in cost of housing over the past three or four years has been due to one thing: more people being let into the market through the change in mortgaging law. When people were allowed to amortize over a forty year period (FORTY YEARS!! HOLY BANANAS!!) that let a whole wave of people into the mix. It wasn’t all off shore money as many have surmised, it’s the person next door to you who may be one of those who put themselves on the hook for FORTY years (or less, depending on how they pay it off). So, we’re still looking and we’re getting closer. And of course anything is possible, we could win a lottery jackpot, or one of those charity lottery first prizes. Either way we plan to be together for the rest of our lives, so wherever we are we will be with each other. Lastly, we plan to go away to wed, likely Hawaii in December. We feel it is too expensive to have a formal wedding with a church and a dinner. We will likely do a family thing, but the more important issue is the get married, which is something that both of us want to do. I love Bonnie very much, and I am grateful every day that she is in my life.

| THE ROLE OF MORRIS ON “REAPER” HAS BEEN RE-CAST
The role of Morris has been re-cast, and I am now out of the Reaper mix. It was purely a business decision, in that the person they hired to play the daughter of Morris is a Japanese pop singer. To that end, they decided to go Japanese for the character of Morris, and have hired another local actor who works a lot in Vancouver. Oh well, easy come, easy go. That is the way of it sometimes in this business. It hurt to get the news, and even now as I write this I still feel it. The important thing is I know that I will get through this, and I also know that something bigger is coming my way. All things happen for a reason, and I don’t begrudge them this change. Of course I wish I was still doing the role, but sometimes things just don’t pan out that way. In any case, I’m still in the industry, I’m still plugging away to create success for myself as a working actor. It’s a process, and it takes as long as it takes. I’m grateful for the opportunities that I have had that I have cashed in on, and I welcome future opportunities to showcase my work again.

| | Well, that’s my latest update. It has been an interesting summer to say the least. On another note, I did go golfing a couple of times and did quite well, considering I have not played for a year. I still have it, but it is a bit rusty. And putting is still something I struggle with, but the struggle is getting easier. I’ll post again next quarter. I will probably have some big news when I do, because when big changes occur so do big achievements. I am grateful for the life I lead, I am surrounded by people who love and care about me, and I am fortunate to be in a position to make a difference in the lives of others through teaching and facilitating. That above all is more important to me, that I make a difference, than anything else. Talk to you in three months or so.
